The Guv'nor

1988 - 2013

The Guv'nors were formed in 1988 by guitarist / vocalist Robert Hokum, they combined P-Funk grooves, Acid Jazz and Latin percussion with Blues based guitar to create a highly individual sound and gained a solid reputation as an exciting and original band.

Along the way, they made several albums, headlined major festivals, had their recordings played on numerous radio stations, 'inflight' programmes, used on commercials and been sampled for 'house' records.

In 2008, celebrating their 20th anniversary, The Guv'nors released their first DVD 'Guvnology' to strong reviews in the Blues Press. Here are a couple of quotes:

'Their unique blend of Latin, funk and hip-hop rhythms, make their music a joyous event... percussive power and great rhythmic feel.' - Blues Matters

'One of the more individual outfits on the current scene and this set is a fine showcase of their abilities'. - Norman Darwen's BluesNews

Between 1989 and 2012 Robert Hokum & The Guv'nors were the mainstay and closing act of The Ealing Summer Blues Festival, which has become Britain's biggest single dedicated Blues event

The Guv'nors called it a day in 2013, 25 years after their first gig.

Robert Hokum is currently gigging with THE DEVIL DRIVES a 4 piece funk-rock outfit, occasionally with his global blues band BLUES SANS FRONTIERES and can be dragged out for the occasional solo gig
